This double nostril kuripe is a handcrafted ceremonial applicator from the Peruvian Amazon, designed for the self administration of hapé. Carved from natural wood and shaped for a balanced, comfortable fit, each piece reflects the skill and intention of artisans working in and around Iquitos, where these tools are an integral part of traditional practice.
The kuripe features a dual nasal design, allowing for simultaneous application, and is adorned with natural materials such as leather, seedwork, or hand strung beads. Many pieces are further embellished with carved patterns, stones, or crystals, each element chosen for both aesthetic beauty and symbolic meaning. The variations in wood tone, texture, and decoration make every kuripe unique.
In Amazonian traditions, tools like the kuripe are treated with respect as personal instruments used in moments of focus, grounding, and connection. More than a functional object, each kuripe carries the presence of the hands that made it and the cultural lineage it comes from, offering a meaningful link to the craftsmanship and ceremonial practices of the rainforest.
